Luminox

When watch industry veteran Barry Cohen came across a Swiss self-powered illumination system, he knew that it would make watches more visible and easier to read in low or no light situations. Recognizing a need in the market, Cohen partnered with friend Richard Timbo, and in 1989, Luminox was born. Since then, Luminox (Lumi being Latin for "light", Nox for "night") is driven by a commitment to offer cutting-edge luminescence and readability in its line of high-performance sports watches.

Luminox is the original self-powered luminous watch brand, and is the watch of choice for U.S. Navy SEALs, Lockheed Martin’s F-117 NighthawkTMstealth and other jet fighter pilots, elite forces worldwide and professional divers.

The Official Watch of the Navy SEALs
The Luminox Navy SEAL watch is the timepiece that made Luminox famous. 1993 saw Assistant RDT&E Officer for the Navy SEALs, Nick North, seeking a more dependable watch for night missions, and the solution was found in Luminox. He worked with Cohen to develop a watch that would specifically meet the needs of the Navy SEALS.

20 years later, the SEALs approached Luminox again, and again we rose to the occasion: the result was the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) model provided to new graduates of the BUD/S training.

Lockheed Martin Timepieces
After our success with the SEALs, Luminox and its watches became renowned. In 1999, Luminox was approached by US Air Force pilots flying the F-117 Nighthawk fighter jet — a watch was developed for these pilots and then contacted Lockheed Martin, which turned into an exclusive arrangement to produce Lockheed Martin timepieces.
